Motor Insurance
Tenure: 1 Year
The Compulsory Personal Accident (CPA) cover by Liberty General Insurance is a standalone compulsory Personal Accident policy exclusively for the owner-driver of the vehicle. According to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), all vehicle owners must have a compulsory personal accident cover with a minimum sum insured of INR 15 Lakh. The standalone CPA policy came into effect from January 2019, wherein the insured can opt for this policy instead of choosing CPA as a cover within a Motor Insurance policy.
This policy compensates you or your beneficiaries against accidental death or disability caused while driving the Insured vehicle. You can choose to buy the standalone CPA if you do not have this coverage within your motor insurance policy or you have multiple vehicles. The type of vehicles included in the coverage is cars (private, commercial and fleet cabs), two-wheelers (bikes and scooters) & Commercial Vehicle.
Drivers and owners of larger commercial vehicles such as trucks or buses can also reduce accidental risk by purchasing the standalone Compulsory Accident cover.
There are several advantages. Here’s a list:
The Compulsory Personal Accident cover extends to death and disability of the insured person.
Cover of INR 15 lakh
The policy applies to an accident not only while travelling but also when you’re getting or out of the insured vehicle.
You don’t need to buy a separate cover for each vehicle. So if you’ve covered up to INR 15 lakh in your existing standalone CPA, it will apply to all your cars.
The primary reason to have a standalone Compulsory Personal Accident Cover is that it is required as per Insurance regulation. Secondly, all vehicle owners or drivers become eligible for insurance benefits under this policy. The coverage applies to death or permanent disability of an insured person while travelling in the insured vehicle.
The policy is valid for one year, and it compensates the insured or the nominee under the policy. As per this policy, in the event of death or disability of the insured person, while travelling in the insured vehicle, the beneficiary gets compensates. This compensation also applies to death or disability of the co-driver.
